ANKARA - Anadolu Agency (A.A), established on April 6th, 1920, is set to celebrate its 87th anniversary on Friday.
A.A staff, led by DG and Executive Board President Dr. Hilmi Bengi, will visit Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk, the Founder of Turkish Republic, in the morning. After laying a wreath on Ataturk's Mausoleum, A.A staff will observe a minute of silence.
A exhibition of 70 archive photographs, which were taken by A.A photographers between 1970-1982, would open at the A.A art gallery and a reception would follow.
A.A was established under the most dire conditions of the Turkish liberation struggle by the directives of modern Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to herald the most accurate, objective and the fastest news from Anatolia.
A.A ran 465,026 stories last year, increasing the number of news reports by 8 percent, while the number of A.A. subscribers have also increased.
A.A, which is offering approximately 400 photographs a day to its subscribers, has also established a photo archive on the internet including nearly 560,000 pictures.
Anadolu Agency is also affiliated to many international organizations including Organization of the Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and Association of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN).
