Health Minister Akdag: Cancer Is A Preventable And Curable Disease

ANKARA - "Cancer is a 40 percent preventable disease. It can be cured with early diagnosis and accurate treatments," Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag said on Sunday.
Speaking at a meeting marking the beginning of "National Cancer Week", Akdag said, "number of cancer cases has increased considerably recently. Extension of lifespan, smoking, malnutrition and stress are among the basic reasons of this increase."
"There are early diagnosis and research centers in 47 cities. We aim at increasing number of those centers to 81 by the end of 2007," he said.
