LEFKOSA - Republican Turkish Party (CTP)-Democrat Party (DP) coalition government in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) aims at reaching a solution on Cyprus issue on the basis of Annan plan before May 2004 in conformity with President and it also aims to hold a referendum on a date on which sides will reach compromise.
The government program which adopts the principle of ''state for citizen'' based on democratization and adjustment to the European Union (EU) norms foresees some arrangements including competition order in economy, restructuring in agriculture and prevention of tax loss.
CTP leader and Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat read out the program of CTP-DP coalition government in the parliament on Monday.
The program said that 'social compromise and solution' government which was formed by political equality and cooperation of the two parties aimed to protect and develop rights and interests of Turkish Cypriot people stemming from international agreements and stated that the government aimed to solve Cyprus issue before May 2004 as a result of a negotiation process which would be carried out on the basis of Annan plan in conformity between President and the government. It noted that CTP-DP coalition government also aimed to hold a referendum on a date on which sides would reach compromise. The program stated that the government aimed to bring a modern, democratic and fair state order which complied with EU norms and which had a stable economy to Turkish Cypriot people.
Talat said that the government formed by this understanding would further improve the democracy culture, ensure social reconciliation, target solution and reach economic, social and political acquisitions which the people needed, adding that ''our government will always respect the principle that TRNC is a democratic, secular and social state of law.
The government programme stressed that preparing the social structure and institutions of TRNC in line with EU norms would be the basic principle, adding that ''democratization is one of the important signs of globalizing and rapidly changing world. Our government will launch all sorts of efforts to make perfect our democracy and to further spread it in a way embracing all social sections.''
TRNC Prime Minister Talat asked the support of the government while reading the government programme in TRNC parliament and said that ''we've called our CTP-DP coalition government which was charged under these difficult conditions of our country, as a government for social reconciliation and solution. Our main target is to ensure the social reconciliation and to reach a fair and lasting peace. We have limited time in this process. The government's main target is to create the conditions for accession of Turkish Cypriots under a 'united Cyprus state' to EU as an equal partner and in a way that protected our rights rather than watching the unilateral membership of Greek Cypriot side to the EU on behalf of whole Cyprus in May 2004. While the CTP-DP coalition government uses all of its sources and experience to overcome the difficulties of this period, the TRNC parliament will be our most important guarantee. It is our most important target to provide unity and solidarity on this essential issue in respect of the future of our country. We expect the support of the parliament with this understanding. If we get your vote of confidence, you can be sure that we will do our best to provide the happiness and prosperity of TRNC people.''
