ERDOGAN:JOIN THE CHANGE
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed Jeddah Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia and asked the countries to provide the trust lost in the Middle East. ''The world is turning into a giant village, and in this village there is a distinction between those who try to set up closer economic-political relations by opening the doors between them and those who isolate themselves from others by closing their doors to the outside world,'' said Erdogan. Erdogan was particularly applauded by women. Erdogan said in his speech that economic guided politics in today's world, and he called regional countries not only to watch the change and transformation, but join it.

ERDOGAN TO MEET WITH HOLLYWOOD STARS DURING HIS VISIT TO U.S.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet with famous stars of Hollywood during his visit to U.S. at the end of this month. Sources said that Turkish businessman Ahmet Ertegun will host a dinner for Erdogan in New York before Erdogan proceeds to Washington D.C. Michael Douglas, who said he could play Ataturk, and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones will be in this dinner. Erdogan who will meet with U.S. President George W. Bush on January 28, will come together with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney in a special lunch.

''IT IS NOT PROGRAM OF DERVIS''
State Minister Ali Babacan said that they did not put into practice program of Kemal Dervis, who had been one of state ministers for economy, and stated that their government had a different economic program. He added that the program which was implemented in Turkey was not the program of Dervis. Stating that 2003 was a difficult year, Babacan said that despite this difficult year, they reached targets on economy. Babacan noted that they aimed to reach 12 percent of inflation rate in 2004. He said that development in interest rates was also very good and stated that real interest rates decreased to 10 percent. Babacan said that International Monetary Fund (IMF) was amazed at the latest developments in Turkey.

MOST CRITICAL ISSUE
Cyprus issue will be key issue in the meeting between Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George Bush on January 28. If Erdogan goes to the United States with a definite decision and a timetable on starting of negotiations on the Annan plan, Bush is expected to extend support to Turkey on its membership to the European Union (EU). Bush can phone leaders like British Prime Minister Tony Blair and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to tell them that ''you should set a date for Turkey to start talks on its membership.'' Bush is also expected to bring onto the agenda Iraq, Armenia and problems of U.S. companies in his meeting with Erdogan.

ECONOMIC CRISIS SHORTENS LIFE-SPAN
The economic crises of November 2000 and February 2001 didn't only negatively affected our economy, but also our life span. The average life-span of people in Turkey decreased by one month after the economic crises. It decreased from 68.6 to 68.5 years. The death rates of infants also increased after the economic crises.

PAPANDREOU SAYS GREECE MAKES MISTAKES TO TURKS
George Papandreou, the new leader of the Greek PASOK party, who started the election campaign in Western Thrace said that the mistakes done against Turks in Cyprus would not be repeated in Western Thrace. Papandreou gave the message in Western Thrace that ''even if I become the prime minister or not, I will do my best to solve the problems of people living in the region.''

ONE MILLION LETTERS FROM CHP
Republican People's Party (CHP) is working hard for local elections which will be held in March. CHP youth department sent letters to nearly 1 million youths who will cast their votes in local elections for the first time. CHP called youths to ballot boxes to gain a say in the future of the country.

SOLANA SAYS CYPRUS HAS STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE FOR EU
European Union (EU) High Commissioner for Common Foreign Policy and Defense Javier Solana said that Cyprus had strategic importance for the EU and stated that sides on the island, especially Turkish side should return to negotiations. Solana said that both sides should be ready for compromise and added that Cyprus had a position which would play a role on political security of Europe.

WOMEN AND MEN SIT SEPARATELY IN JEDDAH ECONOMIC FORUM
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who attended the Jeddah Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia said that economic blocs could not be founded on religious basis, stressing that ''I don't approve the understanding of Islamic Common Market.'' Erdogan who addressed the women and men who sat separately in the Forum Hall noted that he gave importance to women in politics and he was applauded by women.

WRECKAGE OF WAR PLANE FOUND
The wreckage of F-16 war plane which crashed after it took off from Balikesir Ninth Main Jet Base on January 16 was found in the north of Elmali village in Tavsanli town of western Kutahya province. Air Forces Command said that the pilot was dead and the plane crashed during training flight due to technical failure.

ERDOGAN ADDRESSES ARAB WORLD: ''IF THERE IS NO LOVE AND CONFIDENCE, PEACE DOES NOT COME''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''I see in the Middle East that we lost confidence in each other. First of all we should regain this confidence. It is not possible to provide stability before regaining this confidence.'' Erdogan delivered a speech at Jeddah Economic Forum's session entitled ''Turkey: Economic Power Under Formation''. Erdogan said that first of all, they should further develop economic relations between countries and added that since economy was directing politics now.

PLANE FOUND, PILOT DIED
Teams reached wreckage of F-16 war plane which crashed on Friday after it took off from Balikesir Ninth Main Jet Base in Domanic town of Aegean Kutahya province. Mehmet Karakuzu, the pilot of F-16 war plane, was found dead. F-16 war plane belonging to Balikesir Ninth Main Jet Base Command crashed in Domanic town of Aegean Kutahya province due to a technical failure during training flight. Pilot Mehmet Karakuzulu could not jump out of the plane with a parachute and died in the plane crash.

ERDOGAN:WE WILL BE BRIDGE BETWEEN EU AND MIDDLE EAST
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who addressed Jeddah Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia gave important messages in the Fifth Jeddah Economic Forum in which leading businessmen of Muslim countries attended. Underlining the fact that Turkey would constitute a bridge between the EU and the Middle East, Erdogan said that ethnical and religious factors should not be a factor for economic cooperation.

ARINC DUE IN AUSTRIA
Parliament Speaker Bulent Arýnc will leave for Austria today as the official guest of Austrian Parliament Speaker Andreas Khol. After holding a news conference at Ataturk Airport today, Arinc and the accompanying delegation will go to Austria. Arinc will have a briefing at Turkish Embassy in Vienna today.
