HURRIYET (LIBERAL)

IN POSTERS AND SQUARES
The General Staff prepared a poster for Nevruz. There is the photograph of a girl holding a flower in her hand. The Interior Ministry sent circular to governor`s office of 81 cities before Nevruz, and warned the governors against possible provocation. The Ministry asked the citizens not to open banners, flags or posters, other than the Turkish flag. On the other hand, posters of Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization, were opened during the celebrations which began a day before the Nevruz in Yuksekova town of southern city of Hakkari and which were led by the Democratic Society Party (DTP). Kurdish slogans were chanted in the celebrations. 10,000 people joined the celebrations during which security measures were tightened. In his Nevruz message, PM Erdogan said, "there may be circles who want to get different messages from the fire burnt in Nevruz. The fire should represent the spark of friendship, love and brotherhood, not be a symbol of violence and range."

BAYKAL: YOU WILL SEE THAT ERDOGAN WILL NOT BE A CANDIDATE
Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said "you will see that Erdogan will not run his candidacy for presidency. There will be new developments regarding this matter in coming days."

THERE ARE 4.5 MILLION ALAWITES IN TURKEY
According to a survey carried out by KONDA, 99 percent of Turkish population is Muslim. 82 percent of the society is Sunni-Hannafi, while 9.06 percent is Sunni-Shafii, and 5.02 percent is Alawite.

PRESIDENTIAL PALACE MESSAGE FROM ERDOGAN: HOPEFULLY
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "I hope so" as a reply to an elderly person`s remarks: "we would like to see you in the presidential palace". These words of Erdogan, who has not been talking about this matter, were remarkable.

TEACHER EXILED FOR MODERN OUTLOOK
Aygul Pervaneli who left her family in Austria to serve as a teacher in the eastern city of Igdir was exiled from her school.
Sonja Aygun Pervaneli who was exiled to a village school 60 km away from the district boarding school she had been serving for three years said "the school director got me assigned to a different post claiming that I was dressing up in a modern fashion and was serving as a bad model for villagers and women." National Education Director Recep Sezer said "the teacher can file a lawsuit if she wants."

HIGH-END GUEST TO NEVROUZ
The legendary rock star Mick Jagger`s Ex-wife Bianca Jagger will come to Turkey for Nevrouz celebrations. Bianca who is member to many human rights organisations including the Amnesty International will attend the Nevrouz celebrations in Diyarbakir.

GIANT TENDER TO TAKE PLACE TODAY
19 companies will join the tender for the Istanbul Electricity, Tunnel and Trolley Enterprises (IETT) bus station. The tender will start at 13.00 (1.00 p.m.).
Even talks are underway for 1 billion USD, experts say the bus station would be sold for 400-450 thousand million USD.

TWO BIG QUARRELS
Ministry of Justice quarrelled with the Higher Council of Judges and Public Prosecutors (HSYK) and National Education Ministry quarreled with Higher Board of Education (YOK) for the rectors to be appointed to 15 new universities.
The HSYK meeting could not take place yesterday as Justice Minister Cemil Cicek and the Undersecretary did not come. HSYK Acting Chairman Mahmut Acar accused Cicek of preventing the activities of the council and intervening in jurisdiction.

CALL FOR COMMON SENSE
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer made a call for common sense in his Nevrouz message. Turkish General Staff issued a message celebrating the Nevrouz in the website for the first time ever.

ERDOGAN, NOT WANTED
According to a survey carried out by SONAR with 1659 participants in 14 cities, 71.2 percent of the participants said no to the question regarding "whether Erdogan should be a candidate for presidency." 34 percent of the participants said they wanted to see Erdogan neither as President nor as PM. 5.4 percent of the participants wanted Erdogan to quit politics.

ANKARA IMPASSABLE LIKE CANAKKALE
Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal criticized PM Erdogan and said "a person who addresses Ocalan (head of terrorist Organisation PKK) as "Mr." two times should not move to the presidential palace. The flag bows only to the President and not to someone who addresses Ocalan as "Mr". Canakkale is impassable so should be Ankara."

SEZER WILL ASSESS THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
New info shows that, the date of the National Security Council meeting was changed to April 10th upon President Sezer`s request. Top officials said the President asked the last MGK meeting he would attend to be before the candidacy process starts.

WE HAVE COME TO THE END
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a message to his Justice & Development Party (AKP) and said, "we are approaching the end of our five-year government. We will complete this process successfully if we raise our performance."

TURKMENS WARN: KIRKUK WILL BE WORSE
Turkmeneli Association`s Chairman Beyatli said that some intrigues have been carried out to urge Turkmens to leave Kirkuk. "We have been warning for the last two years, however nobody listened to us. The previous day`s blasts will continue and there will be more blasts. We do not want Kirkuk to be a city of hatred and grudge."

ERDOGAN: I HOPE NEVRUZ FIRE TO BE THE SYMBOL OF FRIENDSHIP
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan made important warnings prior to the Nevruz celebrations symbolizing coming of spring. Speaking about those who want to turn the celebrations into mourning, Erdogan said the Nevruz fire should represent love and friendship, not violence and hatred.
"Nevruz is a day of cheer," said Tayyip Erdogan, stating that efforts which aim to polarize Turkish nation overshadow this joy by exploiting Nevruz day, do not comply with Turkish people`s feelings of brotherhood and they will fail.

SURVEY FOR PRESIDENCY FROM AKP
Justice & Development Party (AKP) continues to take the pulse of its branches for presidential election. New names like Abdullatif Sener, Mehmet Ali Sahin, Nimet Cubukcu, Cemil Cicek and Burhan Kuzu are included in the survey.

YENI SAFAK (CONSERVATIVE)

HE COULD NOT PROVE, AND MADE CLAIMS
Republican People`s Party (CHP) leaden Deniz Baykal, who could not prove his allegations regarding Yeni Safak, Vakit and Kanal 7, showed a note of the governor of February 28 process as an evidence. But this note is a gossip. Depending on an article and the letter written by Erol Cakir, the governor of Istanbul during the February 28 process, Baykal claimed that Istanbul Municipality allocated monetary sources for Yeni Safak, Kanal 7 and Vakit. However he could not prove his allegations.

LET THERE BE FRIENDSHIP
President Sezer, Parliament Speaker Arinc and PM Erdogan made friendship and peace calls for Nevruz. On the other hand, all segments of the society have called for "common sense" during the celebrations, while more than 100 intellectuals released a statement in which they warned against provocation.
