ANKARA - European Commission President Romano Prodi will come to Turkey on Thursday as the guest of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen is expected to accompany Prodi who is the first commission president who will pay a visit to Turkey since 1963 when Ankara Agreement was signed.
Prodi will be welcomed by Erdogan with an official ceremony on Thursday. A press conference will be held after the meeting in Prime Ministry.
Prodi will also visit Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc and come together with Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal.
Romano Prodi will be received by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and visit Anitkabir, Ataturk's Mausoleum on Friday.
European Commission delegation will later proceed to Istanbul. Prodi will give a conference at Bogazici University and attend the opening ceremony of EU Istanbul Information Center.
