ISTANBUL - Three Turkish scientists, Prof. Osman Nuri Ucan from Istanbul University and Onur Osman & Serhat Ozekes from Istanbul Ticaret University, developed a new technique which enables the computer-assisted diagnosis of lung cancer.
In an interview with AA, Onur Osman said computer-assisted methods used to determine cancer, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance (MR), started to improve recently.
Emphasizing that their method was also a similar one, Osman said that they applied image processing techniques such as artificial plexus and genetic algorithms, to the medical pictures they obtained with tomography.
Noting that it took a long time to examine the results of computed tomography, Osman noted, "Thanks to our system, the computer terminates the process in 3 to 5 minutes and it can determine the problematic area shortly".
Osman also noted that their technique spotlighted the problematic location in case the doctor overlooked it.
"In addition to lung cancer, the same technique can be used for breast and colon cancers as well," Osman added.
