NOBODY COULD COMPREHEND VETOS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer vetoed decree on appointment of 5 deputy undersecretaries who were proposed by the Foreign Ministry. However, these five executives took office before approval of the decree by President Sezer. With the veto, President Sezer signalled that he will not tolerate such kind of practices that he considers "fait accompli".
Ugur Dogan, one of these five vetoed executives, is the former ambassador to Riyadh while another executive is Selim Kuneralp whose name was involved in the interesting "e-mail" traffic with Karen Fogg, the former representative of the EU Commission to Turkey.

MODERN MOSQUE FOR FAMOUS PEOPLE
A decision was made to build a mosque, having interesting architectural features, in Angora Mass Housing in Ankara.
There is a retired Supreme Court of Appeals chairman and several former parliamentarians in the committee that made this decision.
Ahmet Can Ersan, the architect of Angora Mosque, said the mosque will be unique. There is not a definite decision in our religion for the places of worship. The only important rule is the direction of Mecca. (As is the case with all mosques, it is aligned so that when worshippers perform the Salah (Islamic prayers), they are facing Mecca, with the mihrab of prayer niche in front of them.

BAYKAL DESCRIBES WHO?
"Documents, diaries and records are being revealed one after another. Prior to presidential election, there is a fight within the government aiming to test the strength of each other`s fists," said Deniz Baykal, leader of the Republican People`s Party (CHP).
Baykal also noted that there were efforts to scare and paralyze those who desired to block the way of a candidate. According to sources, Baykal referred to PM Erdogan or Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) with his words.

AKP`S SURVEY ON PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Justice and Development Party (AKP) tried to learn the opinions of its members regarding the upcoming presidential election by sending surveys to sub-organizations.
In the questionnaires where parliament speaker Bulent Arinc and FM & Deputy PM Abdullah Gul`s names were not mentioned, participants were asked "how they approached PM Erdogan`s candidacy for presidency".

COMMANDER DISMISSES HIS AIDE
Air Forces Commander Gen. Faruk Comert has dismissed his aide Colonel Ferit Resmi by claiming that he had been misusing his influence. It was considered a surprising decision in the Turkish Armed Forces.

EARLY MGK MEETING IN APRIL
The National Security Council (MGK) was scheduled to convene on April 27th. However, date of the meeting coincided with the deadline for presidential candidacy. Upon request of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the date of the meeting was changed as April 10th.

AKP`S SECRET SURVEY FOR CANKAYA
The ruling Justice & Development Party (AKP) has begun carrying out a survey among its members for the upcoming presidential election. In the questionnaire, AKP members, if they have, were asked to name their presidential candidates except for Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc. They were also asked whether Prime Minister Erdogan`s candidacy would be positive or negative for the stability of the country.

ANOTHER RESIGNATION FROM ANAP
Goksal Kucukali resigned from the Motherland Party (ANAP). Kucuali said that he decided to resign to cast his vote in the presidential election freely.

BAYKAL POINTS TO TRICKS PRIOR TO PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal stated that although very short time remains for the election, nobody has so far announced candidacy for the presidency. Baykal said campaigns full of slanders were carried out to wear out several specific institutions. Baykal said a similar process was experienced prior to appointment of the chief of General Staff.

AGAR`S CRITERIA FOR CANKAYA
True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar said a person, who at least gained confidence of more than half of Turkish people, should be the president. Agar said, "the nation will correct a probable mistake in the next general elections."

HERE ARE 5 CANDIDATES OF AKP FOR CANKAYA
In the questionnaires sent to Justice and Development Party`s (AKP) organizations, several names for presidential election were expressed for the first time. The first point asked in the survey was "how members assessed PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan`s candidacy".
In case Erdogan does not stand as a candidate, 4 other candidates were also determined. State ministers Mehmet Aydin and Besir Atalay, Minister of Defense Vecdi Gonul and Zonguldak MP Koksal Toptan were the other candidates mentioned in the survey.

CHP DOES NOT SUPPORT "INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING STANDARD"
According to Republican People`s Party (CHP), "International Accounting Standard" will be the end of national companies.
CHP and Justice and Development Party (AKP) keep blaming each other regarding the draft Turkish Commercial Law (TTK), which IMF and Turkish Industrialists` and Businessmen`s Association (TUSIAD) strongly support. While AKP claims that CHP tries to obstruct the draft law, CHP rejects the "international" dimension of the draft, affirming that it does not protect domestic companies.

TGRT NEWS ANNOUNCES TO WHOLE WORLD
Turkish intelligence units found Ali Reza Asghari, the former Iranian deputy defense minister, and the key name of Iran`s nuclear program.
It was the TGRT News TV which made the first airing of the news that Turkish officials found Asghari in a foreign country.
Turkish FOreign Ministry spokesman Levent Bilman, commenting on the matter earlier, stated that Turkish intelligence and customs units "were exerting firm efforts to bring into the daylight" the mysterious disappearance of a former Iranian deputy defense minister.

PARLIAMENTARY BLOCKADE TO UNITED STATES
Separate Turkish delegations visiting Washington D.C. and New York, met high ranking U.S. executives and told them, "if the Armenian draft is adopted in the Congress, relations between Turkey and the United States would get harmed."

EUROPE SHOULD ALSO SEE THESE
International Court of Justice is getting ready to discuss the application of the supporters of the terrorist organization to remove the name of PKK from EU`s list of terrorist countries. Ankara made a counter step and sent a letter to the members of International Court of Justice warning them not to be the protector of terrorism.

PARLIAMENT TO GET READY FOR NEGOTIATIONS WITH EU FUND
The Turkish parliament has received financial assistance from the EU for the first time in its history. The assistance of 1.2 million euro will be used to prepare Turkish MPs for the EU process. An EU Affairs Office will be established at the parliament.

HE LOCKED MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer`s veto regarding the appointment of five deputy undersecretaries at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), caused annoyance within diplomatic circles.
"It is true that President Sezer did not approve the decree on high-level appointments in our ministry," said Turkish MFA spokesman Levent Bilman yesterday.

EPHESUS MOVED TO PARIS
Buses covered with the images of Turkey`s Mediterranean coasts and the historical ruins of Ephesus, travel around French capital of Paris 6 times a day. Moreover, Turkey is the most popular country among the participants of the biggest fair of the year, held in the city.
