FIVE VETOES THAT SHOCKED TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTRY
In an unexpected blow to the Turkish Foreign Ministry last Wednesday, President Ahmet Necdet Sezer vetoed a decree which would appoint five ambassadors as deputy undersecretaries without citing any reasons. Foreign Ministry was not expected to present new names for the posts which were denied by Sezer to former ambassador to Riyadh Ugur Dogan; ambassadors Haydar Berk, Selim Kuneralp, former ambassador to Baghdad Unal Cevikoz, and former ambassador to Tel Aviv Feridun Sinirlioglu.

WHY DID YOU WAIT FOR 17 DAYS?
Ankara strongly reacted to the wife of missing Iranian former defense official Ali Reza Asghari, who blamed Turkey for his husband`s disappearance last December in Istanbul. Sima Ahmadi and her three children appealed to the Turkish Embassy Monday in Tehran and protested Turkey for the incident. Whereas Ankara asked: "Why did you wait for so long to inform us about the incident?"

PRIVATE LINE TO AKDAMAR
For the first time, government has allowed direct charter flights from Yerevan to Van for guests from Armenia who will attend inauguration of restored Akdamar Church.
Prior to inauguration a meeting was held at Turkish MFA with the participation of representatives of Interior Ministry, Culture & Tourism Ministry, General Staff, MIT and Gendarmerie General Command. Representative of Turkish General Staff proposed routine route Yerevan-Istanbul-Van.

TURKEY: FOREIGN REAL ESTATE AGENCIES` NEW ROUTE
High prices and low yields in real estate investments have set global capital`s face to Turkey. Investment plans announced by foreigners reach nearly 10 billion USD. According to analyses of Bosphorus Real Estate Fund, a Merrill Lynch - Krea partnership, 15 billion USD of investments will flow in Turkey in the next five years.

TAX FINE TO POAS, FINALISED
The collection process of the tax fine regarding the historic tax evasion at the Petrol Ofisi Corp.(POAS) (a leading fuel-oil distributor) has begun. Payment order of approximately 1 billion YTL was sent to the company. POAS stocks dropped by 1.7 percent.
At POAS, the eyes have turned to the interest that would be processed for the time period between 2002-2006. Experts say the interest could be 1.5 times more than the actual fine.

ACARISTANBUL WILL BE DEMOLISHED
Beykoz Municipality has taken a decision of demolishment for Acaristanbul villas. A one-week period of time was granted for demolishment.
"This decision is a turning point. No one will dare to do such things from now on." said Environment Minister Osman Pepe. Meanwhile, Ismet Acar said they would file an appeal, and would demolish the villas themselves if the decision was finalised.

GRAVE SITUATION
Kandilli Observatory Center`s Director Prof. Gulay Altay said, "early warning system will give extra 5-6 seconds to (people of) Istanbul (in a possible quake). However, the situation of the buildings in this city is grave." "There is also an activity in the East Anatolia fault line. We should monitor the activities in Bingol and its vicinity," she noted.

DECISION TO DEMOLISH ACARISTANBUL
Beykoz Municipal Council decided to demolish Acaristanbul with four against three votes. The members of the council gathered together under chairmanship of Forestry Ministry Undersecretary Bunyamin Karadag. During the meeting, the council members decided to demolish the villas.

THE COLLAPSE OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM
Taking power from the IMF and the World Bank Justice and Development Party(AKP) , despite all the opposing voices, has step by step privatised the health system and driven it towards collapse. While some patients had to set out to hospitals to have their names written on the cue list at 12:00 midnight, others who thought they were going to be examined and treated for free at private hospitals that signed agreements with the state were frustrated with hospital bills amounting to thousands of YTL.

DECISION FOR DEMOLISHMENT OF VILLAS
After the decision of demolishment and the fines are communicated to Acarlar construction co., one week period of time will be granted for demolishment. Chairman of the board of executives Ismet Acar said they would file an appeal, and would demolish the villas themselves if the decision was finalised.

JUDICIAL PROCESS AGAINST DTP
Thirteen members of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), including the local chairman in Izmir, were detained. On the other hand, DTP chairman in Mardin Ferhan Turk was arrested for he used the expression "Mr." for Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization who is actually imprisoned in Imrali island. Hilmi Aydogdu, the DTP chairman in Diyarbakir, was arrested on February 23rd for his remarks that "an attack on Kirkuk will be considered an attack on Diyarbakir."

EARLY SIGNAL FOR EARTHQUAKE
National Earthquake Monitoring Center Director Dr. Dogan Kalafat said that they will drill 7-9 kilometers depth under the ground and put sensors in fault line. "Thus, we can get preliminary signals before huge earthquakes," he added.

LETTER TO CONGRESS: OUR RELATIONS DETERIORATED
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates wrote a letter to Congress and said that resolution on so-called Armenian genocide will seriously harm Turkey-U.S. relations.

KANDILLI AFRAIDS OF EASTERN ANATOLIAN FAULT
Eastern and Southeastern Anatolian regions are being jolted with mild and moderate earthquakes. People especially living in Elazig, Bingol and Diyarbakir cities are uneasy with the tremors. Officials of Kandilli Observatory Institute warned that there is activity in Eastern Anatolian fault line.

NO TURKISH-KURDISH DISCRIMINATION
Noncommissioned officer Murat Caner, who was paralyzed after he stepped on a land mine planted by terrorist organization, held on to life with his wife of Kurdish origin. Caner said, "those who make discrimination as Turkish-Kurdish shall see our happiness."

Higher Board of Privatization approved sale of the land in Istanbul`s Zincirlikuyu district for 800 million USD to Zorlu Group. If Zorlu Group does not pay the money, the second bid (799 million USD) will be valid.

Debates which have been continuing for months have ended and Istanbul`s Beykoz Municipality decided to demolish Acaristanbul villas. 138 villas will be destroyed.
