Turkey To Host World Water Forum And Ministerial Conference

ANKARA - Turkey has been elected to host the 5th World Water Forum and Ministerial Conference in Istanbul in March 2009, in cooperation with the World Water Council.
According to a MFA statement, Turkey attaches great importance to the 5th World Water Forum and Ministerial Conference, especially in the context of using water resources in order to achieve sustainable development.
The Official Ceremony for the Kick-Off Meeting of the 5th World Water Forum will take place in Istanbul on March 20th, 2007.

-WORLD WATER FORUM-
In accordance with the decisions taken at the UN Conference on Environment & Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the first World Water Forum was held in Marrakech, Morocco in 1997. The second Forum took place in the Netherlands in 2000; the third in Japan in 2003 and the fourth in Mexico in 2006. Almost 20,000 participants, 140 ministers and high-level officials attended the fourth Forum in Mexico.
