LEFKOSA - Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Mehmet Ali Talat who was charged to form the government in TRNC said on Sunday that their meetings with Democrat Party (DP) resulted successfully, adding that they founded a 'government of social harmony and solution' with DP.
Speaking in a news conference after the CTP-DP committees' meeting, Talat said that DP had four ministries and CTP had six ministries.
Talat said that the authorized institutions of the two parties were called for a meeting this evening, and added after the approval of the government programme by the parties' authorized organs, the government protocol would be announced immediately.
Talat stressed that social compromise and solution were among the basic targets of the government, adding that CTP-DP government would target solution in Cyprus issue until May 1.
Noting that DP leader Serdar Denktas would be TRNC Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Talat said that DP would have Economy and Tourism Ministry, Labour and Social Security Ministry, and Agriculture and Forestry Ministry and CTP would have Education and Cultural Ministry, Interior Ministry, Public Works and Transportation Ministry, Health Ministry, Youth Ministry and Finance Ministry.
Talat stressed that the government would start its studies after presenting the list of the cabinet to TRNC President Rauf Denktas on Monday.
GOVERNMENT LED BY ONE LEFTIST PARTY FORMED IN TRNC FOR THE FIRST TIME
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Mehmet Ali Talat who was designated by TRNC President Rauf Denktas on Dec. 29 to form the government, set up a coalition government with right party Democrat Party (DP) on Sunday.
CTP which came out as the number one party from Dec. 14 elections by getting 35 percent of the votes and gaining 19 seats in the parliament, formed the coalition government with DP which has 7 seats in the parliament. For the first time in TRNC, a government was set up under the leadership of a leftist party.
When he was designated to form the government in TRNC, Talat had said that they were not close to any government model, noting ''we need this government, because May 2004 is a real date, we must ensure the solution.''
The number of seats which CTP and DP have in TRNC parliament is 26, which is a critical number, but it is sufficient to get the vote of confidence.
According to Article 106 of TRNC Constitution, the person designated to form the government is obliged to submit the cabinet list composed of 10 ministers at maximum to President within 15 days. Talat will submit the cabinet list to TRNC President Denktas on Monday.
The government programme will be read out in the parliament within one week at the latest following the approval of the cabinet list by President.
After two days following reading of the programme in the parliament, discussions on it will start in the parliament. After one day following the end of the discussions, vote of confidence will take place in open ballot. If the number of those deputies giving vote of confidence is more than those who don't, the cabinet will get the vote of confidence. If not, the prime minister have to present his resignation to TRNC President as his government can't get vote of confidence.
ERDOGAN CONGRATULATES FORMING OF GOVERNMENT IN TRNC
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated on Sunday the forming of government in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and said that this was what they expected.
Erdogan replied to questions of reporters about various issues after announcing 2010 tourism vision of Turkey and the government's tourism policies and targets.
When asked his evaluation about the forming of government in TRNC, Erdogan congratulated the two parties and said that forming of government in TRNC was a good development, adding that he wished it would be a good beginning for Cyprus for the future developments.
When recalled that the United States warned its citizens not to go to Turkey, Erdogan said that the United States had made this warning not only for Turkey but for all places in the world. He recalled that Britain had made such a warning, but then lifted its warning.
Erdogan said that he would discuss and conclude this issue with U.S. President George Bush during his visit to the United States in the end of this month.
When a reporter said that Foreign Ministry caused difficulty for tourism agents by applying visa to citizens of some countries on the basis of reciprocity and asked whether they considered to ease visa procedures, Erdogan said that there were some sensitivities in visa procedures, but they were exerting efforts to ease the procedures.
