LEFKOSA - Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and Democrat Party (DP) of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have reached agreement on forming the coalition government.
CTP leader Mehmet Ali Talat said on Sunday that they have formed a government of social harmony and solution with DP and added that the issue would be discussed in authorized organs of DP and CTP tonight and then cabinet list would be determined and it would be submitted to TRNC President Rauf Denktas tomorrow.
Giving information about the distribution of ministries, Talat said that DP had Foreign Ministry, Economy and Tourism Ministry, Labor and Social Security Ministry and Agriculture and Forestry Ministry, while CTP had Education and Culture Ministry, Interior Ministry, Public Works and Transportation Ministry, Health and Social Aid Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry and Finance Ministry.
Noting that they would rapidly start government program studies as soon as the government protocol was approved tonight and government list presented to Denktas tomorrow, Talat said that the government program would be presented to parliament rapidly and vote of confidence procedure would start.
Talat asked for support from all parts of society to the government and added that they would act as a united government.
DP leader Serdar Denktas said in his that both parties evaluated different views and supports and oppositions coming from their party-bases, adding that no alternative remained except elections and noted that they expected support for government within understanding of consensus.
Replying to questions of reporters, Talat said that solution and social compromise were basic targets of government, adding that they had the target of finding solution until May 1 on the basis of negotiations on Annan Plan.
Upon a question when Annan Plan would be presented to referendum, Talat said that the referendum would be held when Turkish Cypriots, Greek Cypriots, Turkey and Greece reached an understanding on it.
Talat said that the council of ministers list would be announced after it would be presented to TRNC President Denktas for his approval.
When asked whether he would inform the United Nations that they were ready for Cyprus negotiations as soon as they received the approval of the President, Talat said, ''no. Turkey is preparing its views for the moment. We will contribute to formation of that view within cooperation. We will reach a common view. The steps will be taken within the scope of this common view. We have not reached that stage yet.''
CTP and DP have 26 deputies at Parliament totally.
