MOSCOW - Russian inspectors said Monday they had uncovered "numerous irregularities" in procedures at a top nuclear research centre located in Moscow.
The federal nuclear watchdog agency, Rostekhnadzor, announced finding "numerous irregularities in applying rules and in controls over nuclear and radioactive substances" at the Bochvar Centre in the capital.
The research centre broke regulations on "inventory, as well as the rules for measuring nuclear materials," Rostekhnadzor said in a statement on its website.
In addition, the Bochvar institute was failing to implement "a quality control system for measuring nuclear materials and for training, including the testing of personnel in charge of controlling nuclear and radioactive substances," the statement said.
The research institute, named after renowned Soviet academic Andrei Bochvar, describes itself on its website as being one of the most important in the country, with a focus on safety issues during work with nuclear materials.
