180 Kosovan Police To Be Trained In Turkey

PRISTINA - 180 police officers from Kosovo will receive professional training in security units in Turkey, said Yuksel Celik, head of the Turkish police forces under Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
Celik told A.A that in the framework of this project Kosovan policemen will receive training in 13 different units of Ankara police department, such as intelligence, fight against terrorism, and narcotics.
''Missions in Kosovo are well coordinated with the Kosovan police'' said Celik, adding the support for the training of security forces from Kosovo will continue in the future as well.
Currently there are 1750 foreign policemen in UNMIK, of which 142 are Turks. They work jointly with 8,000 Kosovan policemen to assure public order.

UNMIK was born on 10 June 1999 when the Security Council authorized the UN Secretary-General to establish in the war-ravaged province of Kosovo an interim civilian administration led by the United Nations.
