ANKARA - "Trade volume between Turkey and Sudan is expected to exceed 1 billion USD in medium term," affirms Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen, who co-chaired Turkey-Sudan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting together with Sudanese Foreign Trade Minister George Boreng Niyami, in Ankara on Monday.
Tuzmen noted that Turkey's exports to Sudan reached 217 million USD and imports amounted 8 million USD last year.
Stating that Turkish contracting and consultancy companies undertook projects worth of 280 million USD in Sudan, Tuzmen said that Turkish firms invested 120 million USD in that country.
"Trade volume between Turkey and Sudan will exceed 500 million USD in two years, and 1 billion USD in medium term," he added.
On the other hand, Sudanese Minister Niyami said that peace is restored in his country as of 2005.
Noting that investment opportunities and business environment is currently very attractive in Sudan, Niyami said they aim to reach a higher trade volume with Turkey through a more balanced commerce between the two countries.
