ANKARA - EU Commission President Romano Prodi will pay a visit to Turkey on January 15 and 16 as the guest of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
A statement of Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Prodi would be the first commission president who would visit Turkey since signing of Ankara Agreement in 1963.
Prodi will meet with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc.
Prodi will later proceed to Istanbul on January 16. Erdogan will also go to Istanbul with Prodi.
EU Commission President Prodi will give a conference at Bogazici University and attend the opening of EU Istanbul Information Center.
Sources said that EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen would accompany Prodi during his visit to Turkey.
