ANKARA - Turkey welcomed approval of new constitution by the Loya Jirga, or Grand Assembly of Afghanistan, as a significant step in establishment of a democratic and stable administration in the country.
Releasing a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, ''approval of the new constitution constitutes one of the most important stages in the Bonn Process. This development is a historical success in regard to revealing Afghan people's determination in establishment of a pluralistic and democratic system of state and settlement of peace, stability and compromise in the country.''
''We welcome approval of new constitution by the Loya Jirga, or Grand Assembly of Afghanistan on January 4, 2004 as a significant step in establishment of a democratic and stable administration in the country. The Afghan people have recorded a significant progress in formation of a broad-based and legitimate political structure, and a modern and stable administration,'' it said.
The statement added, ''Turkey has been extending support to efforts of rebuilding of Afghanistan since the beginning of the Bonn Process. On the occasion of approval of the new constitution, we congratulate all members of the Loya Jirga. Turkey also affirms that it will continue to support Afghan people in the future.''
