IZMIR - Four Turkish scientists from Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) of the Aegean city of Izmir, applied to the European Patent Office in order to obtain the patents for their 2 projects, which aim at the elongation of human body either by using a remote control or with the help of certain weights.
The first project envisages a 1-millimeter elongation per day, by he help of a remote control which activates the screws driven into the bones. The patient will be able to lengthen his/her own body while lying on a bed by using the remote control device.
In the other project, the patient will be able to achieve a similar elongation by stamping his/her feet strongly on the floor once a day. The project aims to lengthen the body nearly 10 cm within a short period of time like 3.5 months.
One of the developers of the projects Prof. Dr. Hasan Havitcioglu from DEU Hospital`s Orthopedy and Traumatology Department, told the AA correspondent that, they applied to the European Patent Office last September together with other participants Dr. Onder Baran, research assistants Bora Uzun and Hakan Oflaz, and they expected to procure the patents after 3 months.
-"NOT EVERYBODY CAN USE THE TECHNIQUES"-
Underscoring that such techniques could not be implemented for everybody desiring an elongation, Havitcioglu stressed that the techniques would only be used for the patients who have a shortness in a leg due to a trauma and the ones having short legs and short bodies due to several reasons.
"Elongation of human body has a functional purpose, not aesthetic," Havitcioglu indicated.
