CAIRO - Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul met on Saturday Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
Gul and Gheit held a joint news conference after their tete-a-tete meeting.
Speaking at the news conference Gul expressed satisfaction over close ties between Turkey and Egypt. "We are pleased that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak accepted the invitation to visit Turkey," Gul said indicating that date of the visit will be set later.
Responding to a question on Kirkuk, Gul said neighboring countries worked hard for political unity and territorial integrity of Iraq, and that there was a mutual conviction on this matter.
Gul emphasized that problems related to Kirkuk should be solved very carefully.
On the other hand, Egyptian Foreign Minister Gheit said relations between Turkey and Egypt continued positively and for the interests of both parties.
Gheit said Gul told him that the Free Trade Agreement, which had been signed between Turkey and Egypt earlier, took effect on March 1st.
Egyptian Foreign Minister said views of Turkey and Egypt on regional matters were in parallel.
Following the joint news conference with Gheit, Gul proceeded to Turkey`s Embassy in Cairo and met Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari there.
Gul is also planned to meet Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.
