ANKARA - Turkish FM and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul left for Egypt where he will be attending the Arab League FMs` meeting.
Gul briefed the press before leaving at the Esenboga International Airport on the nature of his visit and said he was visiting Egypt upon an invitation from the Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa. Gul indicated he would deliver a speech at the inauguration of the meeting.
Gul noted he would attend the Iraq Special Committee meeting and said he would represent Turkey`s views.
Stating that he would meet Iraqi FM Hoshyar Mahmud Zebari and Egyptian FM Ahmed Ali Aboul Gheit, Gul said he would later move to Sharm El Sheikh to get together with Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak.
Gul said, Turkey was invited to the foreign ministers meeting of the Arab League for the first time.
Reminding the reporters that PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan was invited to the Arab League summit last year, Gul said, "the fact that Turkey was invited to the Arab League meetings first at the level of heads of state and governments and then at the level FMs as a non-member, and the fact that the Arab League with 22 member states listens to Turkey`s views is a sign of the importance attached to Turkey."
Gul underlined that this invitation also showed how enhanced Turkey`s relations to the Arab league were.
