LEFKOSA - President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said the agreement signed between France and Greek Cypriot administration is unacceptable.
"It is unacceptable for us because Greek Cypriot side does not have an authority to sign a military agreement. According to Foundation Agreement, they can not have military bases (on the island). However, they will give France use of those bases, which is illegal," Talat told a TV interview on Friday.
Noting that TRNC warned France over the issue, Talat said Turkish Cypriots would not show tolerance to such an agreement.
While commenting on Greek Cypriot administration's attempts for oil exploration in Mediterranean, Talat also said, "Greek Cypriot side can not make use of natural resources in the sea only by itself." Talat stated that Turkish Cypriots have rights on it too.
He said the only sovereign power on the island is not Greek Cypriot side, so they can not speak and sign agreements on behalf of whole Cyprus.
