ANKARA - Turkey's trade deficit rose by 4.3 percent to 3.1 billion dollars (2.3 billion euros) in the first month of 2007 from 3.0 billion dollars in the same period last year, the national statistics institute said Friday.
Imports increased by 18.3 percent to 9.6 billion dollars, while exports rose by 26.5 percent to 6.4 billion dollars in January, it said.
Turkey's trade deficit was up 19.8 percent in 2006, reaching 51.8 billion dollars from 42.9 billion dollars in 2005.
