ISTANBUL - State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Friday that he believed that Turkey could exceed 500 billion dollars of export figure in 2023, which would be the 100th foundation anniversary of the Turkish Republic.
Speaking in the news conference in which the export figures were announced, Tuzmen said that a great success was reached in exports in the year 2003.
''We record records in exports for years, but this should increase in the future, too. We adopted a development model which is based on exports and we put it in the government programme. An export structure which would provide a sustainable export figure should be formed,'' said Tuzmen.
Tuzmen noted that they targeted 51.5 billion dollars of export and 75 billion dollars of import in the year 2004, adding that ''our exporters should work hard to exceed 55 billion dollars in the year 2004. I believe that we can reach that target. Our target in the year 2010 is to exceed 100 billion dollars in exports.''
