ERZURUM - A Turkish company will construct a factory in eastern city of Erzurum with the partnership of a British company to manufacture microchips.
"The budget earmarked for this factory is 303 million euro and we plan to sell our whole production to Europe," said Ibrahim Aksu, owner of the Turkish company, United Electronics.
We plan to employ 130 people for the factory in the first phase of the project and we will need 1,500 employees in five years, he said.
The chipmaker's production lines will go into operation in 2008.
Aksu said he was encouraged by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for investing in Erzurum, noting that his company has experience in sales of similar technologic devices in Europe.
"We have significant customers like technology giant IBM," he added.
