ANKARA - "Evaluating the Turkish-EU ties from only a political perspective causes emotional reactions from time to time," said Ali Babacan, Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks, on Tuesday.
Babacan addressed the Turkish parliament today and gave information on the 2007 program of the EU Commission.
"Political conjuncture may change with time. Taking into consideration of the multi-lateral relations with the EU, we must continue the EU process with pride and common-sense," noted Babacan.
According to Babacan, the EU will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Rome Treaty in 2007. "The EU faces tests in many fronts, including in dealing with globalization and fulfillment of international roles," told Babacan.
Babacan stressed that Turkey will contribute to the EU significantly once it joins the EU.
"The EU Commission has four strategic goals: increasing the welfare of the people, developing cooperation, promoting further security and making the EU a global power," underlined Babacan.
Ali Babacan remarked that Turkey must patiently wait for the EU to resolve its domestic problems. He added that Turkey will be a growth engine for the EU once it becomes a full member.
