LEFKOSA - Democrat Party (DP) leader, State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) proceeded to the Greek Cypriot side on Tuesday to receive the views of Greek Cypriot politicians about the solution of Cyprus problem.
Addressing journalists following the meeting, Denktas said, ''we will provide a healthier approach toward a solution to the Cyprus question as long as we clarify our views mutually about the solution in the course of the time.''
Pointing out that he had proceeded to the Greek Cypriot side for the first time in 30 years, Denktas told reporters, ''we held a very positive meeting. Continuation of such meetings will make a valuable contribution to efforts of finding a solution to the Cyprus question.''
Denktas thanked AKEL officials for their hospitality.
Expressing his wish over coming together with Hristofyas again, Denktas said, ''I have proceeded to the Greek Cypriot side for the first time after 30 years and paid my first visit to the AKEL. We held a very positive meeting with AKEL directors. I would like to thank Mr. Hristofyas.''
Meanwhile, Hristofyas told reporters in his part, ''this is a beginning. I wish it will continue. We held a friendly meeting.''
Noting that they had discussed the relations between the two political parties, and exchanged views over the Cyprus question, Hristofyas said, ''anyone cannot expect us to solve the Cyprus question at the first meeting. Officials of the two sides should display good-intention. In that case, we can find a solution to the Cyprus question.''
Hristofyas wished a happy New Year to Denktas and to all Turkish Cypriot people.
When asked whether or not he would pay a visit to Denktas, Hristofyas claimed that there were some problems and obstacles, adding that he could pay a visit to Denktas after these problems and obstacles were removed.
He refrained from responding a question about these problems and obstacles.
Later, Denktas visited the Democratic Party (DIKO).
