ANKARA - The Higher Electoral Board (YSK) announced on Tuesday names of the political parties which will compete in upcoming local elections on March 28, 2004.
Sources told the A.A correspondent that 21 political parties would join the local elections.
Names of these political parties are as follows: the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), the Motherland Party (ANAP), the Brilliant Turkey Party (ATP), the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), the Grand Unity Party (BBP), the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Democrat Party (DP), the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP), the Democratic Left Party (DSP), the True Path Party (DYP), the Workers' Party (EMEP), the Young Party (GP), the Labor Party (IP), the Liberal Democrat Party (LDP), the Nation Party (MP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the Free Society Party (OTP), the Freedom and Solidarity Party (ODP), the Felicity Party (SP), the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) and the Liberal Democrat Party (LDP).
YSK has ruled that the Social Democrat People's Party (SHP) and the Democrat Turkey Party could not join the local elections since they had not fulfilled the criteria of general congress and organization.
