ANKARA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has said, ''it was revealed that the press covered some points expressed by Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul at yesterday's meeting of provincial directors of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in a deficient style that misleads to an understanding as if 'the only remedy is the plan of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan'.''
Releasing a statement on Monday, the MFA said, ''it was understood that the news stories in question were written on the basis of indirect information about the meeting which was closed to the press. Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Gul clearly put forward the views of the government about the Cyprus question during the debates at the parliament over the budget for the year 2004. The text of his speech takes place in the web-site of the MFA,'' it added.
On Monday, the Hurriyet daily had claimed that Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Gul put the last point on Cyprus issue saying that they would discuss United Nations Secretary General Annan's plan on Cyprus since there was no other remedy.
