ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer sent a message to President Mohammad Khatami of Iran on Friday, and offered his condolences to those who lost their relatives in the quake disaster.
In his message, President Sezer expressed his profound sorrow over death of thousands of people in the quake disaster which hit Bam city of Iran.
Noting that he had commiserated with Iranian people, President Sezer implored God's strength upon all who are grieving for their beloved ones.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc sent a message to Islamic Consultative Assembly Speaker Mehdi Karubi to extend his condolences.
An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit Bam city of Iran at 5:28 a.m. Iranian time. According to preliminary reports more than 4 thousand people lost their lives and about 30 thousand people were wounded since the quake hit the city when most of the people were in bed, raising fears that the death toll may go higher.
