ANKARA - Red Crescent sent humanitarian aid to Georgia on Friday.
Addressing the ceremony held on the occasion, Red Crescent's Chairman Ertan Gonun said that they decided to send food for 1,000 families in Georgia upon the demand of Georgia.
Gonen said that there were 14 different types of food stuff in the aid package that would be sent to Georgia, adding that the aid would cover one-month need of 1,000 families. Gonen said that the 15 tons of food stuff were worth of approximately 80 billion Turkish liras.
Gonen stressed that the earthquake which took place in southeast Bam city of Iran caused major damage in the country, adding ''we contacted with Iranian officials, they told us that old buildings collapsed and many people died in the earthquake. We started our preparation, when Iran demands aid, we will send it. But Iran has not demanded aid from us so far.''
