LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Wednesday that political parties should come out of election atmosphere as soon as possible and should assume more realistic attitude, adding that political parties should exert efforts to form a government in line with the message which was given by Turkish Cypriot people.
Releasing a statement, Denktas said that no one should try to make him a side as efforts to form a government continued and stated that the picture which appeared after election foresaw that political parties should be flexible and reach a compromise by taking into account issues on which Turkish Cypriot people showed sensitivity. He added that this picture also foresaw that political parties should put forth a government model which would also seek for solution on Cyprus issue in cooperation with Turkey.
Denktas said that he suggested that political parties should come together and form a broad based government, adding that Turkish Cypriot people and he expected political parties to reach compromise and not to leave the country without government.
Responding to Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Mehmet Ali Talat, Denktas said that Talat who made a statement on Wednesday after his meeting with National Unity Party (UBP) leader and TRNC Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu also targeted him and stated that Talat's words targeting him showed that he did not come out of election atmosphere yet.
Recalling that Talat accused him of suggesting UBP and Democrat Party (DP) to act together, Denktas said, ''election is over. Political parties can make an alliance as they want. They can launch initiative not to leave the country without government in line of the message which was given by people in election.''
Denktas said that as he told all political parties and people, he only advised political parties to be flexible and reach a compromise. He added that this was his view and it would continue to be.
Denktas underlined that he had equal distance to all political parties. ''Political parties should come out of election atmosphere as soon as possible and assume more realistic attitude. Political parties should exert efforts to form a government in line with the message which was given by Turkish Cypriot people.''
