LEFKOSA - Democrat Party (DP) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas said on Tuesday that they would expend external unconditional support to National Unity Party (UBP) and Republican Turkish Party (CTP) coalition government that would be formed under the leadership of Dervis Eroglu.
Serdar Denktas made a statement after his meeting with President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and said DP did not think of joining a coalition, yet that they would expend support to a broad-based coalition which the four parties would form.
Serdar Denktas said UBP-CTP coalition should be the government model which should be tried primarily in case four parties fail to agree on government of consensus.
Noting that people gave responsibility to those two parties, Serdar Denktas said they would expend unconditional support to UBP-CTP government that would be formed under the leadership of Dervis Eroglu. He said they would oppose to CTP-UBP government led by Mehmet Ali Talat.
Denktas said as the DP, their duty was to reconcile the two parties, noting that they would not be in a position to leave the country without a government and cause waste of December-May process.
Serdar Denktas said they conveyed their views to Talat, stressing that Talat should forget about CTP-DP-BDH tripartite coalition government and should concentrate his views on UBP-CTP government.
When Serdar Denktas was reminded statements of Talat that there could be cracks in UBP and DP in case difference of views between Denktas and Turkey continue, he said, ''if he expects cracks among DP parliamentarians, this is his wishful thinking''.
Serdar Denktas said the parliamentarians were loyal to DP discipline and exerted efforts for a compromise, noting that Talat should not make statements that would put parliamentarians under suspicion.
