CANAKKALE - A coast guard helicopter rescued on Tuesday seven crew members of British-flagged tug-boat which ran aground off Bozcaada due to strong southwest winds on Monday.
Bozcaada Head Official Aykut Pekmez told A.A correspondent that the British-flagged tug-boat named ''Tajfun'' had run aground off Ayazma region of Bozcaada.
Pekmez said that the crew of the tug-boat asked for help as the boat was to sink but coast guard could not get any result in its rescue efforts last night.
A helicopter of Coastal Security Command came to the spot and rescued the crew, including four Ukrainians, two Greeks and one Polish, Pekmez noted.
Pekmez reported the crew of the tug-boat as in good health condition.
The British-flagged tug-boat had run aground in a region close to Ayazma five days ago due to strong northeastern winds. It had been pulled by Canakkale Coastal Security rescue teams.
The tug-boat had been kept waiting in the region till the storm ended. But, this time it was dragged due to strong southwest winds and ran aground in Ayazma region.
The British tug-boat which was 109 gross tons in weight was en route from Greece to Russia.
