ISTANBUL - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Monday that Turkey carried out a balanced policy in Iraq this period.
Gul said foreign policy priorities on U.S., EU, Islam World and Middle East were brought together at optimum level thanks to the diplomacy that was carried out.
Gul said, ''today, we have a position in Iraq which do not contradict with the EU principles, and which is welcomed in Islam World and the Middle East with sympathy. Turkey has been the only country that continued relations with all the sides on Iraq issue on which international public opinion was divided.''
Noting that Iraq and its people suffered a lot, Gul said whatever wrong leadership could cause could be seen in Iraq.
Gul expressed his belief that Iraq would take its place beside Turkey in the future as a democratic country, and wished this problem to be solved soon.
