BRUSSELS - Co-Chairman of the Turkey-EU joint parliamentary commission Joost Lagendijk sent an open letter to PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the chairman of the Republican People's party Deniz Baykal, asking the article no.301 of the Turkish penal code to be amended.
Pointing out that two weeks had passed since the assassination of Hrant Dink, Lagendijk stressed that it was time to take action after the wide attendance to the funeral.
Claiming that article 301 made Hrant Dink a target, Lagendijk said, "as it is, article 301 endangers people's lives".
Lagendijk said he believed Erdogan and Baykal had the determination and courage to stand against people who wanted to stop the reforms that brought Turkey closer to the EU.
