LEFKOSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas said on Sunday that they have always regarded as a mission rejecting the proposals which would return the people to old days.
TRNC President Denktas said that the world opposed them, it favoured the Greek Cypriots, but Turkish Cypriots didn't give in.
''We commemorate the Turkish martyrs upon the 40th anniversary of Bloody Christmas,'' said Denktas in the ceremony held in Lefkosa Martyrs Monument upon the commemoration week of Turkish Martyrs between 21-25 December.
Signing the special book of the monument, Denktas stated that ''we won't accept the direction shown to us by Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis. This direction is the way that opens the door to Enosis, Hellenization of the island and losing the island like we lost Crete island.''
Turkey's Ambassador to TRNC Hayati Guven wrote in the special book, ''a sovereign and independent TRNC which looks at the future safely and hopefully is rising in this sacred lands where martyrs shed blood for Turkish Cypriot people.''
Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus (KTBK) Commander Isik Kosaner also wrote in the book that they were aware that the security for future in these lands was provided by the bloods of martyrs.
