Annan Sends Letter To Denktas And Papadopoulos About Missing Persons

LEFKOSA - U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan sent a letter on Saturday to TRNC President Rauf Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos asking them to rediscuss the issue of ''missing persons.''
Annan said in his letter that if the both sides were going to agree on the method of examining the files of missing persons, he had to intention to appoint the third member of the Autonomous Missing Persons Committee whose position was vacant.
Annan makes certain suggestions about resume of the research procedure of the committee and about implementation of the agreement reached between Denktas and the then Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides on July 31, 1997.
The committee which was founded to investigate the issue of missing persons in Cyprus is composed of three members appointed by Turkish and Greek Cypriots and the U.N. There is no member in the Committee from U.N. for the moment.
