ISTANBUL - Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said on Saturday that Turkey`s target was the European Union (EU) membership and added that it was not right for people who were against this target to be in active positions in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Sahin replied to questions of reporters and said that recent statements of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and TRNC President Rauf Denktas coincided with each other.
Sahin said that the result was important and Denktas and Erdogan said that they would meet and discuss the issue. He added that EU told Turkey that Cyprus issue was not related with Turkey`s EU membership, but there was an interpretation that the solution would ease Turkey`s membership. Noting that officials of TRNC should have a manner to ease Turkey`s fulfilling this target, Sahin said that it was not right for people who were against this target to be in active positions in TRNC.
