ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that a new government would be formed in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) after Sunday's general election and negotiation process would continue.
Speaking in the meeting of Justice and Development Party (AK Party) at parliament, Erdogan said that Turkish Cypriots showed the whole world by which style they wanted Cyprus issue to be solved by the general election.
Erdogan noted that the foresight that result of the election would harm democracy did not come true and stressed that a democratic election was held in TRNC.
Stating that Turkish Cypriot people did not say ''solution whatever its cost was'', Erdogan said, ''the current situation is not uncertainty, but a requirement of democracy. The will of voters wasn't divided into two or polarized.''
TRNC ELECTIONS IS AN OPEN MESSAGE THAT PROGRESS SHOULD BE RECORDED ON THE WAY TO SOLUTION AND EU TARGET BY PRESERVING VESTED RIGHTS
Erdogan said, ''friendly Turkish Cypriots exhibited their democratic will with maturity and reached a new stage in historical march of Turkish Cypriots. TRNC elections gave guiding messages to everybody who wanted to contribute to solution of Cyprus question. On the contrary to the allegations prior to elections, Turkish Cypriots showed the whole world how Cyprus question would be solved.''
Erdogan said, ''TRNC and Turkey, which have spiritual ties with each other on many issues, showed that they were similar to each other on democratic maturity. The analysis that elections in Cyprus would be a stage to incidents that would damage democracy, failed, and a democratic election took place.''
Erdogan said he believed that the unity and integrity message given by the people would be perceived in a correct way by the politicians, and that nobody would remain deaf to the will exhibited by Turkish Cypriot people.
Erdogan said Turkish Cypriot people focused themselves on the solution and but did not say, ''solution whatever the cost will be.''
Erdogan said, ''results of the elections showed that existence cause of Turkish Cypriot people and EU target did not contradict each other. Will of the voters was not divided and polarized as it was stated by some analysts. On the contrary, an open will was exhibited for a solution through preserving sensitivities of the existence cause of Turkish Cypriot people. One should be blind not to see those.''
Erdogan said Turkish Cypriot people proved that searches for a solution could not progress without basing on national cause.
Erdogan said that Turkish Cypriots revived politics in TRNC in this general election.
''Politics in Cyprus is obliged to cause new births and bring forth new politicians,'' Erdogan noted.
Erdogan said, ''this election has told the politicians that there is need for choices except black and white in approaches to solutions. Thus, voters stressed the need to end the period in which those who give priority to sensitivity for national cause in their political statements are blamed with 'being defenders of status quo' and those who say 'the solution is EU' are blamed with 'being negligent'.''
''Nobody has the right to have political approaches which curtain off things that people want to protect and things they want to gain.''
''Unfortunately, there were people who exerted efforts in this issue before the election. Voters clearly demanded from their own politicians that a new page should be opened by leaving behind former discussions and rows. We respect to this will. All the world expects that this free will should be perceived correctly,'' Erdogan said.
Erdogan noted that a new government would be formed in Cyprus in a constitutional process and negotiation process would continue.
''As Turkish Republic, we will continue our stance to evaluate demands of Turkish Cypriots and the election results together and our support to significant steps for solution of Cyprus issue,'' Erdogan said.
Erdogan stated that the current situation in TRNC was not ''uncertainty'' but ''a requirement of democracy.''
Will of voters were not divided into two or polarized, Erdogan stressed.
Erdogan said, ''will of voters was united on a new ground and a new policy demand.''
The society wanted an understanding uniting views of two political parties, which came out of the election with close results, to be the new government policy of TRNC, Erdogan stated.
Erdogan wanted a political style which found solutions and which was away from the polarized and obstructed structures of black and white approaches to intervene in the process.
''All political sides should be away from emotionality and give priority to TRNC's interests. These elections once more showed that any problem could not be solved by only taking into consideration two probabilities,'' Erdogan said.
Erdogan noted that elections showed how internalized democracy was.
A free and democratic election was held in TRNC without any negative developments before the eyes of observers from all over the world and world press, Erdogan said.
Erdogan stated that TRNC elections to which international community showed great interest was also monitored by EU.
''Solution should be realistic and imperturbable. We hope that Turkey, which is the guarantee of peace in its region and which takes a democratic, fair and lasting solution as basis, will be perceived correctly by all sides in the solution of Cyprus issue in this critical period. I believe so,'' Erdogan said.
Erdogan noted that the message given by Turkish Cypriots in the elections would be perceived correctly by all the sides, adding that mutual good will and will for solution would be the ground in the new negotiation process.
