ISTANBUL - Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah has said that security forces had impounded 102 kg of heroin in an operation in Istanbul.
Holding a press conference on Saturday, Cerrah said, ''acting on a tip-off, security forces launched an operation in Buyukcekmece district on December 9 against an illicit drug trafficking network. During the operation, 102 kg of heroin was confiscated and 14 people were detained.''
Cerrah said that the dealers were planning to market the drug in European countries.
''Our influential and determined fight against illicit drug trafficking has been continuing. Also, we, as the Provincial Directorate of Security in Istanbul, have launched a project against illicit drugs. The first promotion of the project will take place at Mydonose Showland on December 22. During the activity, we will distribute books and stage a theatre play. We expect five thousand people to attend the activity,'' he added.
