BRUSSELS - European Union foreign ministers opted on Monday to start to a process that would establish direct trade ties with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Efforts should resume without delay on the adoption of EU Commission`s proposal to open direct trade with the TRNC, foreign ministers said in a statement issued by the EU General Affairs Council.
Diplomatic sources expect that the Greek Cypriot administration could attempt to divert the proposal to indirect trade through its own territory.
On the other hand, TRNC is demanding the EU to start direct trade through Magosa port or more importantly through Ercan airport.
