ISTANBUL - Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim returned on Friday from Geneva, Switzerland where he attended World Summit on Information Society (WSIS), to Turkey.
Yildirim told reporters that their aim was to make best use of information and communication technologies, give their society a place in global information society, and integrate with the world.
Around two thousand people from 191 countries attended the summit held in order to eliminate differences in science and technology between developed and developing countries, Yildirim said.
Yildirim noted that the summit aimed at creating a common vision and understanding, using science and communication technologies efficiently, and eliminating differences among countries.
Stating that participants reached a compromise on ''declaration of principles'' and ''action plan'' at the end of the summit, Yildirim said that the two documents were accepted by all the countries.
Yildirim emphasized that issues mentioned in those documents would be very beneficial in Turkey's activities.
Media would play a supporting role in information and communication technologies, Yildirim stated.
Yildirim added that applicability of the decisions made at the summit would be taken up in a second summit to take place in Tunisia in 2005.
