LEFKOSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas received on Friday the parliamentary delegation which came from Turkey to observe the elections in TRNC on Sunday.
Speaking at the meeting, Denktas said that the EU claimed that elections would not be held fairly, adding that the world had already decided that Turkey interfered in the elections in TRNC.
''The opposition in TRNC propagated and deceived the world in order to come to power by ignoring the honour of Turkey,'' said Denktas.
Recalling that EU rejected to send observers to TRNC elections, Denktas said that ''if Cyprus is important for EU, isn't it its mission to observe and see what will happen during the elections? They don't do it because they've already given their decision, they regard Cyprus as one which is in fact composed of two parts.''
TRNC President Denktas said that the elections would be observed by the Turkish parliamentary delegation and he was sure that the elections would be transparent, adding that the elections would be inspected by the Supreme Court and this court was an independent institution. Speaking to the delegation, Denktas said that ''if there is a mistake, you will tell us. If there is no mistake, your report will be our document of honour against those who tell that there is a mistake.''
When reminded about the news stories published in the Greek Cypriot press telling that there was a military activity in East Mediterranean and that the U.S. wanted to move its base in Spain to Cyprus and unite them, Denktas said that foreign powers wanted to turn Cyprus into an EU and U.S.-British base.
Denktas noted that ''but we know one thing: Those who extend support to Greek Cypriots that much, launch efforts for their own interests, not for interests of the TRNC people.''
Denktas said, ''what are their interests? It is to make Cyprus an EU base and U.S.-British base. That's why Britain refrained from including its bases in the EU. It did it in order to use those bases with the United States. EU has said that Cyprus is necessary strategically for us. This means that there is an agreement between them. EU, the United States and Britain will use Cyprus as a control center against oil wells, Arab countries and probably against Turkey.''
Denktas said, ''how much longer would Turkish Cypriot youths walk with those people who turned their back on Turkey?'' and stated that everyone should cast their votes on Sunday by listening to voice of their conscience.
Denktas said that after elections, everyone should come together by forgetting those disputes and give the message that ''as state, we exist and are ready for peace,'' to the world.
Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission Chairman Mehmet Dulger, who heads the parliamentary delegation, recalled that they came to TRNC to make observations during elections upon the invitation and stated that it was a necessity of international mission and also Turkey's responsibility for TRNC. Dulger said that a result which would put forth the will of Turkish Cypriot people would appear in elections and noted that he hoped that people would not discuss results of elections and elections would bring a new horizon to Turkey and TRNC.
Dulger, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies; Mehmet Cavusoglu, Alaaddin Kaya, Omer Gulyesil and Republican People's Party (CHP) deputies; Inal Batu and Hasan Fehmi Gunes are currently in TRNC as observers upon the invitation of TRNC Parliament Speaker Vehbi Zeki Serter.
