KIZILCAHAMAM - "2007 will be a year of success. Relations with the EU and the momentum in relations with international institutions like the World Bank and the IMF will continue exactly in the same way," Turkish State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan said on Sunday.
Taking the floor at the "3rd Kizilcahamam Investment Conference" hosted by the Union of Turkish Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Babacan said the government wishes to implement the social security reform fully starting as of July 1st, 2007.
Babacan said the government endeavoured to reach its targets without thinking that there would be elections in 2007.
"Any stagnation, suspension and postponement of reforms will never be allowed showing the elections as pretext," he noted, adding that Turkey did not have time to lose.
"We are decisive as the government. However, the stance to be assumed by the representatives of the business world in this period is very very important," Babacan added.
Babacan said the foreigners could not comprehend why elections were so exaggerated in Turkey, indicating that foreigners assumed a more positive stance than Turkish citizens.
