ANKARA - "Approval of Generalized System of Preferences by the U.S. Congress relieved the Turkish businessmen exporting to the United States," Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Sunday.
In an exclusive interview with the A.A correspondent, Tuzmen said the Congress accepted and U.S. President George Bush approved "Generalized System of Preferences" providing opportunity for 144 developing or under developed countries to export certain products (more than 4,000) duty free to the USA.
Indicating that the system would be reviewed in 2008, Tuzmen said lobby activities would continue in order to prevent Turkey from being excluded from this system.
"If Turkey was excluded from this system, around 4-5 percent tax would be taken from the products it exports and this would have a negative impact on competition of Turkish export products in the USA market," Tuzmen said.
