ANKARA - Economic relations between Turkey and Ethiopia are not as good as diplomatic relations, said Ethiopian Industry & Trade Minister Grima Birru who met Faik Yavuz, deputy chairman of the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), in Ankara on Friday.
Birru said that the trade volume between the two countries can grow to a higher level.
Noting that the results of the 4th term meeting of Turkey-Ethiopia Joint Economic Commission (KEK) are satisfactory, Birru said that they are expecting important developments to occur in areas of investment and commerce in the future.
Stating that two Turkish entrepreneurs are planning to invest in Ethiopia, Birru said that they are expecting TOBB to encourage Turkish companies to invest in Ethiopia.
On the other hand, TOBB deputy chairman Yavuz said that Turkey and Ethiopia can cooperate in sectors like tourism, food, automotive and by-industry.
He noted that the trade volume between the two countries was 140 million USD in 2005, adding that they set the target as 500 million USD during KEK meeting.
