ANKARA/BEIRUT - Ankara has launched initiatives after Lebanon and Greek Cypriot administration signed "exclusive economic zone agreement".
Sources said that the Turkish Foreign Ministry conveyed its views about the issue through the Turkish Embassy in Beirut as well as the Lebanese Embassy in Ankara.
According to sources, Turkish officials said that all Mediterranean-littoral countries should cooperate regarding use of sea authority zone as Mediterranean is a semi-closed sea and they told Lebanese authorities that the agreement may violate rights of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as well as other regional countries.
Sources added that officials also stressed that Greek Cypriot administration does not legally and actually represent the whole Cyprus and thus Greek Cypriot administration does not have the authority to sign a bilateral agreement.
