AGREEMENT REMOVES SOME AIR CORRIDOR PROBLEMS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES
ANKARA - Foreign Ministry Spokesman Huseyin Dirioz said on Thursday that the agreement signed between Turkey and Greece on air corridor in the Aegean, removed some air corridor problems between the two countries.
Replying to a question on the agreement signed by Turkish and Greek officials in Paris within International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dirioz said studies, which continued for a long time to open air corridors linked with Aegean to service, resulted positively, stressing that 13 new international air corridors would be put into the service of region and the world aviation starting as of December 25.
Stressing that six of those corridors were directly linked with Turkey, Dirioz said, ''the new arrangement increases current civilian air traffic between Turkey and Greece at least 10 times, and is important in respect to security and order of flights. This also removes some long lasting air corridor problems between the two countries.''
Technical delegations of Turkey and Greece signed three agreement letters on December 10 determining authority and responsibilities regarding coordination of traffic between the two countries.
