ANKARA - Total deposits at banks increased 1 quadrillion 265.7 trillion Turkish liras (TL) to 149 quadrillion 56.4 trillion TL as of November 28, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the total deposits were 147 quadrillion 790.7 trillion TL on November 21.
Excluding inter-bank deposits, the total deposits, which were 145 quadrillion 262.5 trillion TL on November 21, increased 1 quadrillion 304.4 trillion TL to 146 quadrillion 566.9 trillion TL on November 28.
The total foreign exchange deposits under total deposits at banks increased 572.3 trillion TL from 71 quadrillion 768.5 trillion TL on November 21 to 72 quadrillion 340.8 trillion TL on November 28.
The total TL deposits increased 732.1 trillion TL to 74 quadrillion 226.1 trillion TL on November 28. The total TL deposits were 73 quadrillion 494 trillion on November 21.
The total TL deposits were composed of 40 quadrillion 382.7 trillion TL deposits at public banks, 33 quadrillion 84.5 trillion TL of deposits at private deposit banks and 502.1 trillion TL of deposits at foreign banks.
BANKS' CREDIT VOLUME INCREASES BY 680.3 TRILLION TURKISH LIRAS
Banks' credit volume increased 680.3 trillion Turkish liras (TL) to 55 quadrillion 879.5 trillion TL between November 21-28, 2003.
The total credit volume at banks was 55 quadrillion 199.2 trillion TL on November 21.
The credits given to financial sector were composed of 860.8 trillion TL of loans given by deposit banks, and 1 quadrillion 731.6 trillion TL of loans given by development and investment banks.
The credits given to non-financial sector were composed of 174.6 trillion TL of loans given by Central Bank, 48 quadrillion 519.8 trillion TL of loans given by deposit banks, and 4 quadrillion 586.7 trillion TL of loans given by development and investment banks.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES DECREASE BY USD 2 MILLION
Foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank decreased by 2 million U.S. dollars between November 28 and December 5 2003.
According to the Central Bank's weekly bulletin, the Central Bank's foreign exchange reserves which were 31 billion 324 million U.S. dollars on November 28, decreased to 31 billion 322 million U.S. dollars on December 5.
Total foreign exchange reserves of banks and private finance organizations decreased 314 million U.S. dollars from 12 billion 748 million U.S. dollars to 13 billion 62 million U.S. dollars between November 14 and 21.
The international reserves of Turkey comprising gold reserves and foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank, commercial banks and private finance organizations decreased 315 million U.S. dollars from 46 billion 694 million U.S. dollars to 46 billion 379 million U.S. dollars between November 14 and 21.
REPO TRANSACTIONS BETWEEN BANKS AND THEIR CUSTOMERS DECREASE
Repo transactions between banks and their customers decreased by 85 trillion Turkish liras (TL) between November 28 and December 5, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the repo transactions, which were 3 quadrillion 550 trillion TL on November 28, decreased to 3 quadrillion 465 trillion TL on December 5.
Repo transactions among the financial organizations increased 336.2 trillion TL to 7 quadrillion 713.1 trillion TL on December 5. The total repo transactions amount was 7 quadrillion 376.9 trillion TL on November 28.
The reverse repo transactions among the financial organizations, which were 7 quadrillion 376.9 trillion TL on November 28, increased 336.2 trillion liras to 7 quadrillion 667 trillion TL on December 5.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS INCREASE TO USD 68.9 BILLION
Total foreign exchange deposit accounts at banks increased 444 million U.S. dollars to 68 billion 910 million U.S. dollars between November 21 and 28, 2003.
According to Central Bank's provisional statistics, total foreign exchange deposit accounts at banks was 68 billion 466 million U.S. dollars on November 21.
Foreign exchange deposits increased 474 million U.S. dollars to 52 billion 411 million U.S. dollars in the same period.
Total internal foreign exchange deposits increased 549 million U.S. dollars to 50 billion 159 million U.S. dollars while external foreign exchange deposits decreased 75 million U.S. dollars to 2 billion 252 million U.S. dollars in the same period.
Meanwhile, total foreign exchange deposits at the interbank market increased 21 million U.S. dollars to 549 million U.S. dollars.
Foreign exchange deposits with letter of credit and super foreign exchange accounts increased 233 million U.S. dollar to 16 billion 731 million U.S. dollars between November 28 and December 5, 2003.
TURKEY REPAYS USD 94.95 MILLION IN FOREIGN DEBT BETWEEN DEC. 1-10
Turkey repaid a total of 94.95 million U.S. dollars in external debt between December 1 and 10, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the Treasury repaid 59.10 million U.S. dollars; the Central Bank repaid 25.73 million U.S. dollars, and the administrations with general and consolidated budget paid the remaining 10.12 million U.S. dollars.
Turkey has repaid 14 billion 491.03 million U.S. dollars in external debt since the beginning of the year.
Turkey repaid 847.51 million U.S. dollars in external debt in January, 1 billion 948.87 million U.S. dollars in February, 1 billion 57.93 million U.S. dollars in March, 915.06 million U.S. dollars in April, 1 billion 133.96 million U.S. dollars in May, 1 billion 936.25 million U.S. dollars in June, 1 billion 851.89 million U.S. dollars in July and 907.35 million U.S. dollars in August, 712.08 million dollars in September, 1 billion 498.42 million U.S. dollars in October and 1 billion 586.76 million U.S. dollars in November.
The total external debt repayments in 2002 had been 17 billion 365.18 million U.S. dollars.
SECURITIES ACCOUNT AT BANKS INCREASES BY 97.2 QUADRILLION TL
The securities account at banks increased 97.2 quadrillion Turkish Liras (TL) to 51 quadrillion 871.9 trillion TL on November 28, 2003.
The total securities account at banks was 51 quadrillion 774.8 trillion TL on November 21.
The Central Bank data show that there were a total of 51 quadrillion 50.6 trillion TL of securities including 31 quadrillion 223.9 trillion TL of securities and 19 quadrillion 826.7 trillion TL of securities over foreign currency in the deposit banks portfolio.
The securities over TL at deposit banks are composed of 4 quadrillion 34.2 trillion TL in treasury bonds, 26 quadrillion 667.5 trillion TL in state debenture bonds and 456.4 trillion TL in stocks.
A total of 1 quadrillion 68.4 trillion TL of foreign currency securities at these banks are abroad while there is a total of 18 quadrillion 659.3 trillion TL of state debenture bonds among the domestic securities.
The total securities account at the development and investment banks was 817.5 trillion TL.
