LEFKOSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas said on Thursday that the people had the right to change the government, adding ''but this time the elections are not related to change of government. It is about future of TRNC and limitation of Turkey's guarantor rights.''
Denktas attended the meeting organized by TRNC Young Businessmen Association and explained his views about Annan plan and Cyprus issue.
Noting that Cyprus could not become a member of an institution which does not include Turkey, due to the guarantee agreement, Denktas said that ''we must be very alert, our people should go to elections by listening to their conscience.''
Denktas accused those opposition parties which extended support to Annan plan and which pursued a different path from the national cause, calling the people to resist the games tried to be played.
Noting that Annan Plan removed the rights which Turkish Cypriots gained with 1960 agreements, Denktas said that they would make proposals to protect basic rights in the future.
Denktas said that Loizidou case was a misfortune and added that the current situation appeared because an intervention was not made on time, but Turkey had been carrying on negotiations for two years to prevent the case to constitute an example for future and it would not.
Denktas said that they wanted the commissions which they had formed to solve property issue to be accepted and Greek Cypriots prevented this. He stressed that cases like Loizidou should be solved in political aspect, not legal aspect.
